A memo claiming that an associate of the president’s son who had connections to a Chinese energy company paid Hunter Biden and at least two relatives $1.3 million was published on Thursday by the Republican chairman of the House Oversight Committee.
They are said to have been compensated after the associate, Rob Walker, received $3 million in a wire transfer in March 2017 from a Chinese energy company that was associated with another business with which Biden had been doing business. According to Comer, Biden, his uncle James Biden, and Hallie Biden, Beau Biden’s widow, were the recipients of the $1.3 million in payments.
Even though the $3 million figure and Hunter Biden payments were reported almost a year ago, Comer’s memorandum highlighted what the committee called “new evidence” obtained from a subpoena of Walker’s bank records: two payments to Hallie Biden in 2017 for $35,000 each.
According to the memo, “The Committee is concerned about the information revealed in these bank records,” as well as “why Hallie Biden — publicly reported to work as a school counselor — received money” from Walker’s company.
In an interview with The New Yorker in 2019, Hunter Biden acknowledged that Hallie Biden was romantically involved with him at the time.
On Thursday night, a request for comment received a response from a spokesperson for Hunter Biden’s legal team.
“Hunter, his uncle, and Hallie were the only people who owned the accounts that Rep. Comer so categorically listed.”
James Biden’s representative declined to comment. We were unable to get in touch with Hallie Biden for a response.
In response to Comer’s memo on Thursday, White House spokeswoman Ian Sams mentioned that Comer had said in an interview with Fox Business this month that the Delaware U.S. attorney investigating Hunter Biden’s allegations of tax fraud should have prosecuted Beau Biden, who died in 2015.
